Mexico debuts with easy win over Puerto Rico in the 2025 Caribbean Series Streameast

Mexicali (EFE) – The Charros de Jalisco, representatives of Mexico, debuted in the Caribbean Series with an 8-1 victory early Saturday morning over the Mayagüez Indians of Puerto Rico.

For Jalisco, hosts of the tournament being held in Mexicali, a Mexican border city, Colombian Reynaldo Rodríguez shined with the bat by going 3-for-4 with two runs scored.

Mexican starter David Reyes was the winning pitcher after throwing seven innings of four hits, four strikeouts, one walk and one run allowed.

The victory gave Mexico a record of one victory without defeats, the same as the Dominican Leones del Escogido, who hours earlier, at the start of the 2025 Caribbean Series, beat the Cardenales de Lara of Venezuela, the champion country, 2-0.

Mexico opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning, when American Jack Mayfield hit a single around third base, with which Mateo Gil scored 1-0.

The Charros increased their lead in the fourth inning. Japhet Amador hit a double to center field to bring Colombian Reynaldo Rodriguez and American Donovan Casey to the plate for a 3-0 lead in favor of the home team.

The Puerto Ricans discounted in the top of the fifth inning, when Onix Vega hit a sacrifice fly to left field, allowing Isan Diaz to reach home plate with the score 3-1.

The Jalisco team struck again in the fifth, when a wild pitch by Julián García allowed American Billy Hamilton to score the 4-1.

The hosts sealed the win with a four-run rally in the eighth. With the bases loaded, Hamilton received a walk that allowed Rodriguez to score 5-1, after which a passed ball allowed American Rudy Martin to score 6-1.

In addition, a single by American Michael Wielansky to right field sealed the score 8-1, driving in Carlos Mendívil and Billy Hamilton.

The Charros will return to action later this Saturday when they face the Cardenales de Lara. Mayagüez will rest on Saturday.
